RANTHAMBORE NATIONAL PARK
PROJECT TIGER RESERVE | ONE OF INDIA'S LARGEST NATIONAL PARKS
One of India's largest national parks, Ranthambore National Park is located near the town of Sawai Madhopur, around 180 km southeast of Jaipur in Rajasthan. The park was named after the 11th century fort of Ranthambore that sits atop a rocky outcrop within the forest. Though the fort is now in ruins and overrun by vegetation, remnants of the summer palaces, temples and guard stones within the fort still remain.

An erstwhile hunting reserve of the Maharajas of Jaipur, Ranthambore National Park is today a Project Tiger Reserve - a protected area for the Royal Bengal Tiger, the park's most famous mammal. Other species of mammals that call this park home are Common Leopard, Nilgai, Wild Boar, Sambar, Hyena, Sloth Bear, Chinkara, and Southern Plains Grey Langur.
Ranthambore, due to its varied terrain and abundance of water bodies, also has an excellent population of birds: Graylag Goose, Indian Peacock, Woodpecker, Indian Gray Hornbill, Common Kingfisher, Bee-eater, Cuckoo and many more.
