Spread across the Vindhya Hills of Madhya Pradesh, Bandhavgarh National Park covers a core area of 105 sq km and a buffer area of approximately 400 sq km. The terrain ranges from tall grasslands to thick Sal forests, making this park a suitable home for a diverse variety of animals and birds.

Once a hunting reserve of the royal family of Rewa, Bandhavgarh was declared a national park in as recent as 1968. Along with the Leopard, Langur, Nilgai, Chausingha, Chital, Chinkara, and Wild Boar, Bandhavgarh is most famous for great sightings of the Royal Bengal Tiger. In fact, there is a famous saying about the park: "In any other park in India, you are lucky if you see a tiger. In Bandhavgarh, you are unlucky if you don't see (at least) one".
