ASSAM & ARUNACHAL PRADESH WILDLIFE AND BIRDING

ROUTE: EX DELHI/KOLKATA - DIBRUGARH AIRPORT TO TINSUKIA - ROING - MAYUDIA - NIZAMGHAT - TINSUKIA - KAZIRANGA NATIONAL PARK - NAMERI NATIONAL PARK - GUWAHATI

SUITABLE TIME TO VISIT: NOVEMBER TO APRIL

Day 1: Delhi/Kolkata – Dibrugarh Airport – Tinsukia

On arrival at Dibrugarh Airport, transfer to a hotel/resort in Tinsukia for your overnight stay.

​

Day 2: Tinsukia – Roing

​

Today, with a packed breakfast in tow, board a ferry to cross the mighty Brahmaputra river. Later, drive to Roing, a census town in the Lower Dibang Valley district of Arunachal Pradesh. The town, located at the bottom of the Mishmi Hills, is an unexplored birding area. Overnight stay at a traditional guest house.

Days 3 - 5: Roing – Mayudia

​

Rise early in the morning to explore the Roing area and later head to Mayudia, a trekking destination and birding paradise. Many endangered avifauna species are recorded in this area. Overnight stay at a lodge.

Day 6: Mayudia – Roing

​

More birding in and around your lodge in Mayudia. Drive back to Roing later in the day for an overnight stay.

​

Day 7: Roing – Nizamghat – Tinsukia 

​

Today, drive for a few hours to get to the flood plains of Nizamghat, a grassland area of birding importance, where you will have plenty of opportunity to spot unique species. Later, drive to Tinsukia for your overnight stay.

Day 8: Tinsukia – Day trip to Dibru-Saikhowa National Park

​

A full day of birding at the tropical moist deciduous forest and grasslands of Maguree-Motapung wetland and Dibru-Saikhowa National Park.

 

Day 9: Tinsukia – Day trip to Digboi

​

Today, with less than an hour's drive, we spend time at an abandoned oil field, an important birding area in this region.

 

Days 10 to 12: Tinsukia – Kaziranga National Park

​

Drive to Kaziranga National Park.  Explore the different ranges of this Park on jeeps and elephants. In between safaris, you can also visit nearby tea gardens and villages to experience the charming culture of this region.

 

Days 13 & 14: Kaziranga National Park – Nameri National Park

 

Drive to Nameri National Park. Explore the park on foot, spending most of your time in the forest spotting as many birds as you can. There will also be opportunity to raft on the Jia-Bhorelli River and spot waterside birds. Stay overnight at Eco Camp outside Nameri National Park.

 

Day 15: Nameri National Park – Guwahati

​

Transfer to Guwahati airport for your onward journey. En route, we will visit the Guwahati Garbage Dump and Deepor Bill Wildlife Sanctuary, for your last birding experience in Northeast India.
