Due to its inaccessibility large tracts of undisturbed semi-topical jungle remain. Namdapha is also one of the very few protected areas that span an altitude of 200 meters ASL to 4500m. Dibru-Saikhowa is a wetland reserve. Its rich diversity of birds and the occurrence of the severely threatened Ganges dolphin have gained it the status of UNESCO World Biosphere Reserve. |
Dibru - Saikhowa National Park situated in the south bank of the river Brahmaputra in Eastern part of Assam exhibits the properties of both the Indian and Malayan sub regions. Of the seven parts of the park one part is wet land and the rest is mainly grassland and dense forest. The Park is home to the White winged Wood- Duck and semi-wild horse called the Feral Horses, which are third and fourth generation of those tamed army horses left loose during the earthquake here in 1950. |
