Eastern Himalayan Birding Tour : Overview

This itinerary is a unique combination to explore birdlife at the plain forests of Assam and the mountainous terrain of Arunachal Pradesh as well.

Mishmi Hills - the name itself conjures up mystical images of mountains and mist. A southward extension of the Great Himalayan Mountain Range - Mishmi Hills has a pristine forest and intact mega-diversity, truly a best place to encounter with species like Temmink's Tragopan, Darjeeling Woodpecker, Black Eagle, Sultan Tit and fire-tailed Myzornis etc.

Dibru-Saikhowa, on the other hand, has an impressive list of about 350 species of birds and is, perhaps, the best place to see 3 Indian endemics: Marsh, Jerdon's Babblers and Rufous-vented (Swamp) Prinia.

The vast tracts of pristine rain forest of newly formed Dihing-Patkai Wildlife Sanctuary in Assam, is teeming with a rich and diverse birdlife. It is also a major refuge for the Hollock Gibbon, India's only ape.

TOUR GUIDE

Imran Ali: A true son of the soil, Imran was born in a village close to Kaziranga National Park. A chance encounter with an Australian bird watcher while he was aiming for a spotted dove with catapult changed his life. He was greatly impressed by the words of the birder and today he is not only an avid bird watcher himself but goes out of his way to do his bit to conserve wildlife and nature.

Imran has been escorting our birding and wildlife tours for some time now and is universally appreciated for his jovial nature and for his knowledge of birds and wildlife. He is very flexible and goes out of his way to meet our guests' needs. He has led important groups like Massachusetts Audubon Society, Harvard Natural History Society etc.
